Kerala Statistical Institute (KSI) was established in 1977 as a professional, non-commercial, non-profit, non-governmental organization by a group of experts in statistics, economics, management, education etc. The KSI is a body registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act 1955.
The main objective of the Institute is to undertake research studies in social, economic, cultural, management, health and other fields using statistical techniques and to disseminate the knowledge generated. KSI offers consultancy services in identifying data gaps, formulating statistical hypothesis, designing and conducting scientific socio-economic surveys on various subjects, data processing, drawing inferences and undertaking analytical studies. KSI also organizes specialized training programme in these areas. Building database and providingassistance and guidance to government agencies and other institutions in scientific use of statistical methods fall within the objectives of KSI. Surveys / studies / projects undertaken by KSI in the past were sponsored by Government of India, Government of Kerala,Centre for Development Studies, international agencies like WHO, UNFPA, World Bank, UNICEF, and ILO.
